RAYMOND MARO

HEAD OF PROGRAMMES

Raymond C. Maro is a Director of Programmes at Centre for International Policy-Africa. Previously he served as youth consultant in policy and governance and the 1st East African Community Youth Ambassador to the United Republic of Tanzania, where he has devoted 90 percent of his practice to East African Community’s regional integration agenda and development for the past five years. He has extensive experience in governance relations and regionalism. His recent activities include LIVE and recorded one on one media interviews as analyst on youth empowerment, foreign policy, governance, elections and development from both local and international media houses including BBC, VOA, UN Radio and the East African Television- EATV, moderating International Forums and Caucuses that focus on youth engagement in innovation and integration.

Maro is highly adept in organizing forums, trainings and possess high lobbying skills with proven experience in facilitating multi-stakeholders dialogue on Democracy, Human Rights and Governance in Africa.

Maro has lived and worked in a cosmopolitan environment outside his home country Tanzania that include Kenya, the United States of America and the United Kingdom. He has led a team of youth leaders from national, regional and international organizations in different events and activities that include Presidential Election Observer Missions to Kenya in 2013, Burundi and Tanzania in 2015 under the aegis of the East African Community (EAC) and Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). He also represented EAC Youth Ambassadors Platform to the first African Union High Level Youth Dialogue on Democracy Human Rights and Governance in Dakar Senegal. The breadth of his knowledge in international relations and governance is part of his exposed life in the occidental world.

Maro in a Tanzanian national, fluent in English and Swahili language. He holds a Master’s degree in African Peace and Conflict Studies from the University of Bradford, United Kingdom and Bachelors of Arts (Hons) in International Relations and Diplomacy from the United States International University-U SIU Nairobi Kenya and Certified Certificate in Good Governance and Peace Building from
